The recent extravagant conduct by the Bauchi State Commissioners of Health and Education at a party continues to draw reactions as another group calls for an investigation into the source of wealth lavished by the two commissioners.
Reacting to a viral video showing the two commissioners lavishly spraying money on praise singers at a wedding in Dass LGA, the Prudence and Accountability Defence Forum, (PADF) said the actions of the commissioners amounted to gross insensitivity and blatant impunity at a time when several households are going hungry.
The video, which has since caused public outrage, depicts a gross display of opulence and irresponsibility by the two public officials.
“It is deeply concerning that individuals entrusted with positions of power and responsibility are actively engaging in such reckless behavior, showing a complete disregard for the suffering and hardships faced by the citizens they are elected to serve.
“It is disheartening to witness the lavish spending of public funds by the commissioners who should be responsible for the welfare and development of our state. This behavior not only undermines the principles of transparency and accountability but also displays a lack of empathy towards the plight of the people they are meant to represent,” said spokesperson for the Prudence and Accountability Defence Forum, Ahmed Umar Kaigama.
In light of these flagrant abuses of power, the Prudence and Accountability Defence Forum calls on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the source of the wealth displayed by the Bauchi State Commissioners of Health and Education.
“It is crucial that their actions are subjected to legal scrutiny, and if found guilty of any form of financial impropriety or corruption, they should be held accountable to the full extent of the law.”
Furthermore, the Forum urges the Bauchi State Government to address this issue with urgency and take appropriate disciplinary action against these commissioners. It is imperative that public officials are held to the highest ethical standards, and any misconduct or abuse of power should not be tolerated.
“We appeal to all citizens of Bauchi State to remain vigilant and hold their leaders accountable for their actions. By collectively demanding transparency and accountability in governance, we can foster a society where public officials prioritize the interests and wellbeing of the people they are sworn to serve,” Kaigama said.
