Queen Amina College Kaduna, after scoring 28 points, emerged winners of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North West Zonal office Kaduna Schools Disaster Risk Reduction Club Quiz Competition in commemorating International Day For Disaster Risk Reduction 2023 on Friday October 13, hosted by their school.
Hard fighting Government Day Secondary School Unguwan Sarki settled for the second position 26 points after an initial tie on 22-22 with the winners, before losing out in the second round.
IRFA International School settled for the third position with 18 points.
Speaking during the event, NEMA North West Coordinator, Imam Garki Albani praised the participants, while assuring that the next edition will be more competitive
He said he was impressed by their knowledge base, urging them to learn more about disaster risk reduction.
In an interview with newsmen after the event, the zonal coordinator said, “it’s a day celebrated annually and NEMA joined in celebrating the day by conducting quiz competitions between clubs which were established to inculcate disaster reduction in young ones.
“The quiz is to build the capacity and build their minds on disaster reduction. Making the club makes them conscious of risks around them,” he said.
As part of the activities was a drama presentation by students of Queen Amina College on fire disaster prevention.
High point of the event was the presentation of prizes and medals to the three schools that finished first, second and third respectively.
