-Says it is part of Christian holiness to protect the nation

On Sunday, 19th February 2023, the Associate Parish Priest of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Rev Fr Luka Nuhu Balarabe tasked eligible voters in Nigeria to shun the tendency to vote for better options in place of the very best stressing that Nigerians deserve first class treatment.

The priest hinged his homily on the day’s Gospel reading of Mt. 5:38-48 in which Jesus commanded His followers to be as perfect as their heavenly Father and reminded the faithful of their duty to purify the nation by voting for candidates who will uphold the nation in righteousness.

“Do not be tempted to go for the lesser evil.” The priest positioned. “Examine your conscience and the candidates you want to vote for. For many years, many of us thought that politics is a dirty game, but we are all suffering now. Go down the memory lane. A leopard hardly changes its skin. While change is permanent, sometimes it occurs accidentally. You must be careful because as a Christian, you are called to go into politics. It is part of your Christian calling to cast your votes. It is part of holiness to ensure that our national life is not taken for granted by anybody. Vote the best candidates into office!”

Lamenting the degrading state of tertiary institutions in the country with reference to those in Zaria, the clergyman blamed the condition on the electorate and their choice of bad leaders. He enlightened them on the implication of the consequences of their choice of leaders on future generations and prayed for the grace to take the right actions.
