MOGADISHU, Somalia –
Mareeg newspaper, a privately owned paper is celebrating its second anniversary of existence to mark the day when it printed its first edition in Somali capital Mogadishu.
Many people from the current government, civil society organizations and ordinary guests have attended a highly decorated ceremony to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of Mareeg newspaper that was held at a hotel in the capital Mogadishu.
For the last two years, the paper printed well written and edited news, including parliamentary news, empowering disables, women affairs, and ongoing elections.
While speaking at ceremony, Abdullahi Ali Warsame, the co-founder of Mareeg newspaper, has congratulated the whole staff members and the readers at large on the occasion.
Warsame said that the paper has made huge efforts to becoming a true public service media and that its journalists have a duty in maintaining the neutrality of the public institution.
Mr. Warsame said he also wants to see the paper to develop away from the influence of political pressure, with a respect for the journalistic ethics.
He says he did whatever he could to make the magazine stand out on the streets of the capital Mogadishu.
He says he already set up new offices to make the paper reach to other major towns in regional states of Somalia.
Mareeg news paper does also have a station in London, the United Kingdom’s capital as well.
