Former Senator Kidnapped,8 Others Injured

Senator Efiong Nelson has been kidnapped in Akwa Ibom Sunday night.
The incident happened around 9 pm, when the former lawmaker was at a lounge (a Nite Club), said to be owned by him.
About eight customers who scampered for safety during the melee preceding his abduction by unknown gunmen reportedly sustained injuries.
Senator Nelson Efiong, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, represented Akwa Ibom South (Eket Senatorial District) at the National Assembly in 2015.
His abductors have not made contact with his family as at press time or given any reasons for their action.
The ex-lawmaker was said to have been kidnapped by three armed men in Uyo, the state capital last Sunday night after raining bullets randomly to scare passers – by away.
The grief – shaken family members of the kidnapped politician have also not spoken to the media as at the time of filling this report but, a survivor of the incident and social media influencer, Mr. Eric Ekwere had posted on the Correspondents’ Chapel WhatsApp platform the eventful Sunday night that, “I have just been shot at along Oron Road,” as he cried for help from the security agencies.
According to another eye witness who pleaded anonymity, “the incident occurred at about 9:00pm on Sunday.
“The armed men came to the lounge along Oron Road in a Toyota Camry car shooting sporadically, sending away customers and other guests who took to their heels before they moved straight to whisk the Senator away from where he was seated.”
Senator Effiong had been a Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly under Governor Victor Attah on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, before decamping to the APC, from where he won election to represent Akwa Ibom South in the NASS for one term.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Amiengheme Andrew at press time has said the Command will issue a statement on the matter.
