I truly don’t understand why people especially we northerners are quick to openly and shamelessly condemn and vilify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for the present economic hardships in the land. Is he the cause? When our own, a northerner held sway between 2015 and 2023, and was busy destroying all the foundations that held our economy we were quiet, probably because he is our own or because we were eating with him on the same table. It was during those 8 years of locust, cankerworm and caterpillars destruction that our economy went under. The solid foundation of our cooperate and harmonious coexistence were dug out and totally destroyed.
People who had no business in government offices were appointed due to nepotism: because they were Buhari’s nephews, cousins, in-laws or friends and families. They were not qualified to be appointed as cleaners but were given juicy appointments where they had access to our common patrimony and so they looted our national purse blue and black. Recharge card sellers became power brokers, senile individuals were appointed horrible Ministers and heads of parastatals. They were years of wicked bazzar with our wealth the headmaster, I mean Mr. Integrity who had none, President Muhammadu Buhari superintendent over the mess. I recall that during the 2014/2015 presidential campaigns, there was an advertisement of what the Buhari administration would come to do should he become president: the advert was done by means of an aeroplane that was fling backwards instead of flying forward. I don’t know how many of you readers can remember that advertisement.
Recall that Buhari’s first Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director of NNPC as it was then, Dr. Ibe Kachukwu cried foul saying hundreds of millions of dollars and crude oil were being carted away. That eventually cost him the position of GMD NNPC and later he was forced to throw in the towel.
The Man, President Buhari according to his doctors’ advice was to eat very well and have long rest, and while he was doing so, the nation’s cash cow and the Treasury were being mercilessly attacked and plundered. This is where we are today. Our foreign reserve deeply eaten, there are several holes of pipes fraudulently connected to our national crude oil pipes thereby drastically reducing our out put and income.
This poor man, called President Tinubu actually saw what was happening then but could not speak because he was waiting for his turn to saddle the horse of leading Nigeria. Little did he realize that he was waiting to ride on a dead horse. Even the only thing Nigerians were benefitting being *Subsidy* was removed before Tinubu took over hence he said, *”Subsidy had gone for good”* and today Nigerians are groaning in pains: lack money, food and gainful employment. Your salary cannot fund transport you to work for the month not to talk of feeding and meeting other necessities of life. Life has suddenly became brutish.
This is what happens when a husband foolishly spends his family’s tomorrow and day after tomorrow yesterday. What is the way out of the looming long famine? Nigerians are dying daily as a result of starvation. How can the situation be arrested? I believe President Tinubu should do the needful by probing former President Buhari and recover from *anyone* involved in the looting of our money
