It was a nostalgic moment for some of the alumni of Federal Government College (FGC) Kwali Abuja as the 1993 set converged on the prestigious Kapital Club and Apartments, Asokoro in the heart of Abuja for their 30th reunion after graduation.

They held several activities, including  a tour of the famous Jabi Lake Side, grand dinner and condolence visits, during the event, from November 25 to 27, 2023.

Some who missed the 25th edition  five years ago, were excited to see those who they spent the largest part of their formative years at the unity school after 30 years of graduation.

They gathered from all over Nigeria and other parts of the world for the three-day event,  with the theme, “Together Forever!”which  they described as fun filled and an experience they would always live to remember.

The secondary school class mates, were seen giggling like teenagers as they hugged and embraced each other, remeniscing  the times spent in Kwali as  teenagers.

In his speech at the event, Governor of Kwaki 1993 Set, Nuhu Sani, described the reunion as successful.

“It is such an honour to be here today, standing in front of all of you, my fellow classmates. As we gather today to celebrate our 30th class reunion, I can’t help but think about how far we’ve all come. I hope we all came with great anticipation of renewing old friendships from years gone by, and to establish a bond between each other for support and encouragement.

We are all here because we are thankful for the role FGC Kwali Abuja played in our development. Have you all thought why all of us are super excited, and have been waiting for this day, to assemble here? It is because of the special fellowship and memories we share and one which we cannot attain with any other class.

I’ve come to realize how vulnerable we all are and that having the support of a group of people that we formed and shared a common bond with over 30 years is very vital as we grow older. I hope that we are able to laugh at the memories of our Kwali days. To listen and cry with each other as we share the struggles, trials and tragedies we’ve endured over the years.

Since 1993, we have all gone our separate ways and have lived our own very different lives. According to our separate goals and interests, we chose a variety of occupations and across these 30 years, we have succeeded in many things and failed in a few. But the one thing we all have in common is that we received our foundation from the same place—Federal Government College Kwali Abuja. This was our training ground and graduation from here was our rite of passage.

Have you all thought why all of us are super excited, and have been waiting for this reunion? It is because of the special bond and fellowship we share and one which we cannot attain with any other group. We are unique in our own way. No other class has the same exact experience we shared 30 years ago. We are one of a kind class today, as we were 30 years ago, as we will be tomorrow and forever!

Lastly, I would like us to stand up for 1 minute of silence to honor our mates who are no longer with us…

In closing, I will leave us with this quote I read somewhere,

“We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die,” he said.

He therefore,  called on all of them to bond, network and support one another grow economically.

“Finally, I want to specially thank the organizing team for a good job well done; and all those that support to ensure this event is a success. Also be rest assured that the annual dues funds raised shall be invested in due course to yield profit,” he said.
