The new Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Professor Adamu Ahmed has said that ABU is not just a university, but a national institution, which is a source of pride and identity to millions of Nigerians.
The VC expressed this, shortly after taking over from his predecessor, Professor Kabir Bala at the Senate Chamber, Samaru Campus of the institution, while reflecting on the on the legacy of ABU,
“Distinguished colleagues, Ahmadu Bello University is not just a university — it is a national institution, a source of pride and identity for millions, and a living legacy of the Sardauna’s vision for education, unity, and development.
“We are home to the largest number of professors in the Nigerian university system, and we continue to attract the best minds across all regions of the country,” he said.
He said that ABU’s contributions to agriculture, engineering, medicine, the humanities, education, and public policy are deeply woven into the fabric of Nigeria’s progress.
“And yet, what makes ABU truly exceptional is the diversity of its people, the resilience of its spirit, and the impact of its graduates across the world,” he said.
He however, acknowledged challenges facing the institution.
“At the same time, we must acknowledge the challenges that confront us.
“These include limited resources, infrastructure demands, gaps in research funding, curriculum relevance, and the evolving needs of our students in a rapidly changing world. But challenges are not new to ABU — and neither is our capacity to overcome them,” he assured.
