Zamfara Assembly Passes 43 Bills In Two Years — Speaker

The Seventh Zamfara State House of Assembly has passed 43 bills from its inauguration in June 2023 to date.

The Speaker, Alhaji Bilyaminu Samai’la Moriki who made the disclosure at a news conference in Gusau on Friday, said the 7th assembly has recorded various achievements within two years.

“I am here to present the major achievements recorded so far, as well as the challenges we have faced under my leadership since June 2023.

“This briefing is part of our unwavering commitment to keeping the public informed about our legislative activities and happenings in the house,” Moriki said.

The Speaker emphasised that the legislature is mandated to make laws, provide oversight, and effective representation.

“It is evident that the doctrine of separation of powers among the executive, legislature, and judiciary clearly defines our roles and responsibilities,” he said.

“During the period under review, guided by our constitutional duties, “I am pleased to inform you that the 7th assembly has passed 43 bills.

“Major laws passed by the house include Zamfara Community Protection Guard Laws, Zamfara Security Trust Fund Law
and Zamfara Consolidated Revenue Law among others.

“All these bills underwent thorough legislative processes, including public hearings, to ensure that they truly reflect the needs and interests of the people,” he said.

Moriki added that the house has also passed numerous resolutions initiated by individual members, drawing the attention of the state government to execute crucial projects and programs aimed at improving the welfare of our citizens.

“To ensure prudent management of state resources, the house undertook intensive oversight following the passage and assent of the 2024 and 2025 appropriation bills.

“In every democratic setting, harmonious collaboration among the executive, legislature, and judiciary is vital to achieving shared goals.

“I am proud to note that the relationship between the 7th Assembly and the other arms of government has been cordial and productive,” he said.

“This synergy has contributed immensely to tangible progress in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and human capital development.

“As lawmakers, we remain committed to working collaboratively in support of the rescue mission and the six-point agenda of Gov. Lawal.

“On issue of insecurity in some parts of our state, we commend the sincere efforts of Gov Lawal, the security agencies, and patriotic citizens for the improving situation,”.

“I would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt sympathies to victims of armed conflicts in Zamfara and other parts of the country,” The Speaker said .
