Emir Of Gusau Lauds AGILE Project For Promoting Girl-child Education

The Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello has commended effort of
Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning And Empowerment (AGILE) project for enhancing girl-child education in Zamfara.

Bello made the call in Gusau at the community engagement on enrollment drive campaign on girls child education organised by the state AGILE office.

The AGILE is a World Bank intervention project aimed at reducing adolescent out-of-school girls.

“The participants who attended the meeting comprised Non Governmental Organizations (NGO), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and Faith Based Organizations (FBOs,).

“Other participants include traditional and religious leaders, People With Disability (PWD) as well as media practitioners.

The traditional ruler represented by Senior District head of Gusau Emirate, Alhaji Bashir Kabir Danbaba assured his emirate’s commitments to collaborate with all stakeholders to enhance girls child education in the state.

The emir described AGILE project as a good development for future of female education in the state.

“As custodians of people, at emirate level, we have been organizing sensitisation and consultations programs to increase awareness of the general public over the importance of educating their female children.

“Our people are responding in a better, way, we have started seeing positive results in this effort.

“We will continue to do more in reaching grassroots at various levels,” the emir added.

Also speaking, the State Communication officer, AGILE project, Bashir Kabir Ahmad, commended stakeholders’ participation to the event.

“This is welcome development in aligns with the declaration of state of emergency to state education sector by Gov. Dauda Lawal.

“We are committed to ensure effective; collaboration with stakeholders to ensure sustainability of this project in Zamfara.

“This engagement meeting is part of the sustainability plan to engage stakeholders how to enhance the enrollment drive of out-of-school adolescent girls children.

“All stakeholders need to wake up and contribute for the success of AGILE project in the state.

Earlier, the facilitator of the event, Malam Sadisu Ibrahim noted that AGILE project is targeting enrollment of thousands of out-of-school adolescent girls in Zamfara.

“This is part of the constant engagement of stakeholders to ensure community ownership of education initiatives.”

“This AGILE project is a great opportunity for future of our female children and our society.

“We are all stakeholders to education, we have greater role to play in bridging the gaps resulted various challenges to education sector,” he added.

According to him, there are a lot of gaps in Zamfara state as regards to girl’s child education, adding that some of the gaps has to do with poor enrollment.

The event was attended by the Chairmen School Based Management Committees (SBMCs), Principles Government and Private Girls Secondary Schools, Teachers among others.

Stakeholders promised to agree to work together towards reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state.
