The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and Lives and Livelihoods Mission to Kano has expressed contentment with the success recorded by the Kano State Agro-pastoral Development Project, KSADP, saying it has the potential to attract more donor-funded projects to the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Communication Specialist, KSADP, Ameen Kabeer Yassar, made available to.our correspondent, yesterday.

Head of the donors’ team that visited Kano, Mr. Javed Khan stated this when he met officials of the state Ministry of Agriculture and other key stakeholders, to appraise performances, review successes and focus on what is yet to be done by the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project, KSADP.

This development is in view of the impending closure of the project in June, 2025.

Mr. Khan, who also met with several beneficiaries of the project, said the KSADP is a very important project not only for Kano but for the Islamic Development Bank, hence, the need for the state government to ensure efficient closure of the project.

“The good thing is that the Project Management Unit has delivered good results and the donors are happy with the project. The President of the bank was here and the donors also came to Kano, to see what is on the ground. They were satisfied”, he maintained.

The performance of the project and its efficient closure will increase the chances of Kano getting more development support from international donors, the team lead added.

“Extending the project for a few more months is possible but it will cost Kano state government a lot of money. So, it is better to close the project as arranged on 30th June”, he affirmed.

Consequently, Mr. Khan recommended that the KSADP should make quick and efficient utilisation of its residual resources, advisably, by investing in the procurement of simple agricultural machinery for farmers in the state.

He, however, cautioned that non-release of counterpart funding to the project by the state government might create a bad impression of the administration, thus, harped on the need for timely release of the funds, to achieve the set goals.

Receiving the mission, the Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Agriculture, Alhaji Bashir Sunusi, assured that the state government will be positive in respect of the release of counterpart funding to the project.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the government has the political will to drive agricultural transformation in the state, pointing out that about five percent of the state’s 2025 budget was set aside for agriculture, the highest amount for the sector in recent times.

The mission took time off to visit selected beneficiaries of the project in Wasai and Baita communities in Minjibir local government area.
