Tribute to Soldiers on Armed Forces Remembrances Day.

By Elizabeth Ameh

I am a soldier, born with one life,
Yet I live a hundred lives.
My heart beats with humanity,
But I die like a lamb, unclaimed and free.

My sole purpose is to defend the cause,
To risk my life for the greater laws.
My family, friends, they matter not,
When duty calls, I answer, no matter the plot.

I am a soldier, born like every soul,
But I live as if I have no family to hold.
The bush is my home, where I reside,
With comrades in arms, side by side.

I am loved by all, but my gun is my best friend,
Together we face the enemy’s end.
My nights are spent in tents, under the stars up high,
The lucky ones die with honors, while others die, unknown, and lie.

I am but one man, with a life that’s lived a hundred times,
A soldier, the sacrificial lamb, my life, a noble crime.
