Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has disbursed over N2.1 billion to 41,600 women in the last nine months to boost small scale enterprises and economic growth in the state.
The cumulative sum is part of the monthly N50,000 start-up capital being disbursed to each of the 5,200 women selected from 44 local government areas of the state.
The initiative launched in May, 2024 has boosted micro economy development and enhance macro enterprise in the state.
Unveiling another batch of 5,200 beneficiaries on Wednesday at the Government house, Governor Yusuf expressed determination to sustain the monthly intervention to crush the level of poverty in the state.
A statement issued by the Governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa said that Governor Yusuf has so far empowered 41, 600 from the inception of the programme.
He charged the beneficiaries from across the 484 wards of the state to judiciously utilise the money given to them to support their, stressing through local businesses.
The governor added that present administration is determined to bring millions of the state citizens out poverty bedeviling Nigerians through empowerment and other similar initiatives.
Governor Yusuf further said the state teeming youth are being empowered through intensive training in the state 26 Entrepreneur Institutions.
In his remarks, the chairman Women Empowerment Committee who is also the state Commissioner of Investment, Commerce and Industries, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi said his ministry would liaise with Directorate of Research and Documentation, Kano Government House to register the beneficiaries as corporative society with a view of boosting their businesses.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for supporting them with the amount that would change their lives and thier immediate family.
