The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Kaduna State Branch has addressed the pressing issues facing the healthcare sector in the state.
At a press briefing, Chairman Dr. Madaki David Sheyin highlighted the challenges affecting healthcare workers and the impact on the quality of care.
“The healthcare system in Kaduna State is facing numerous challenges, including poor working conditions, inadequate funding, and security concerns.
“These issues have resulted in brain drain, poor patient outcomes, and a general decline in the quality of healthcare services.” Dr. Sheyin said.
The NMA called for improved funding for healthcare infrastructure and services, enhanced security measures for healthcare workers and facilities and autnomy for Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital to address administrative bottlenecks.
They also sought collaboration with health professional groups to combat medical quackery as well as demanded intensified efforts to secure the release of kidnapped healthcare workers
Dr. Sheyin commended Governor Uba Sani’s administration for showing empathy and taking steps to address these challenges. However, he emphasized that more needs to be done to address the systemic issues plaguing the healthcare sector.
The NMA also announced its upcoming Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference, themed “Enhancing Healthcare Delivery amidst challenges: Strategies for a Sustainable Medical Practice in Nigeria.”
As the healthcare sector continues to face numerous challenges, the NMA’s call to action serves as a reminder of the need for collective effort to address these issues and ensure quality healthcare services for all Nigerians.
