The factional chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Kaduna State, Alhaji Akilu Yakubu Kabo has blamed crisis within the party at the national level for reasons they dumped the party for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Kabo alongside his State executive on Sunday, formally announced their defection at the residence of a PDP National Leader, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, who was a former two-term governor of the state.
In a phone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday July 23, 2024, Kabo said that the leadership tussle for the party at the National level, prompted them to abandon the party.
He admitted that in Kaduna State, there is a factional group loyal to 2023: Presidential candidate of the party and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“You know, the founder of the party gathered stakeholders from the North West states here in Kaduna and from there, chairmen loyal to him cane on board in all the seven North West states.
” As we speak, the matter is still pending in court over who controls NNPP at the national level between Senator Kwankwaso and the founder. We are loyal to the founder but due to the crisis in the party, we decided to defect to a party that has brighter future,” he declared.
Kabo was contacted by our correspondent, following calls from some aggrieved NNPP members, claiming to be the authentic exco of the party in the state.
