The Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Malam Wadatau Madawaki, has said that the government will establish nine, science, technical and entrepreneurship pilot secondary schools across the state.
Madawaki disclosed this in Gusau on Wednesday, while inspecting the ongoing renovation and construction projects at Zamfara College of Arts and Sciences (ZACAS) and Government Science Secondary School Gusau.
He said that three pilot secondary schools would be established in each of the three Senatorial District of the state.
“In Zamfara Central, a science secondary school would be upgraded to standard, while Sambo Secondary School would be upgraded and converted to Government Technical College,” he said.
Wadawaki said the Government Girls Unity Secondary School, Kwatarkwashi, would be upgraded and converted to Government Entrepreneurship School.
“In Zamfara West, Government Unity Secondary School, Gummi, would be upgraded to a Standard Science Secondary School, while Government Girls’ Secondary School, Talata Mafara, will be upgraded and converted to Government Technical College.
“The Government Secondary School Bakura, would be upgraded and converted to Government Entrepreneurship College,” he said.
The Commissioner further said that in Zamfara North, Government Science Secondary School, Shinkafi and Government Technical College Kaura-Namoda, would be upgraded.
He added that the Government Girls Secondary School, Moriki, would be upgraded and promoted to Government Entrepreneurship School.
Madawaki further said that the state government’s decision to establish the schools followed a recent declaration of state of emergency on education sector of the state.
“Today, we are on fact finding visit to these projects to actualise the declaration of state of emergency on education sector of the state.
“You know, Gov. Dauda Lawal under his rescue mission policy, promised positive change especially to education sector.
“We are committed to promoting education sector of the state, no society will develop without quality education.
“We want to bring changes to ensure enabling environment for teachers and students in all the schools across the state.
“The first phase of the on-going renovation covered classes, lecture halls and students’ hostels while the Second and Third Phases are on the way.
“The renovation will be extended up to staff offices and accommodation,” the Commissioner said.
Receiving the Commissioner, the Provost ZACAS, Dr Yakubu Yari, commended Gov Dauda Lawal for what he described as urgent intervention to the college.
“This school has been on dilapidation stage over the years, but the ongoing renovation is upgrading the infrastructure and academic standard,” he said.
Yari assured that the management of the college would ensure effective maintenance of all the newly constructed and renovated projects in the college.
