Solace has finally come to the vulnerable communities of Atyap Chiefdom in the Zango Kataf Local Government Area, facilitated by Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji, the Member Representing Zango/Jaba Federal Constituency.
Magaji has spearheaded the construction of a multi-billion Naira bridge aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by these communities, which have been subjected to recurrent attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
During a visit to the construction site, it was observed that the bridge extends from Magwafan village through Atakgui, Sako, Gidan, Zaki, and Kibori villages, linking numerous other vulnerable communities bordering the Kauru and Kachia local government areas.
A local resident recounted the tragic loss of lives, particularly among women and children fleeing attacks, as they attempted to cross the river to neighboring villages.
For decades, commuters endured severe difficulties, especially during the rainy season.
The project, once completed, is expected to bring significant relief and enhance the economic well-being of the locals.
Another community member expressed sorrow over the transformation of many residents into internally displaced persons in their own ancestral lands due to the violence.
The Paramount Chief of the Atyap People, Mr. Dominic Gambo Yahaya, expressed hope and renewed confidence in the community, noting that the bridge project signifies the onset of positive change.
The bridge will significantly reduce travel time from the Palace to vulnerable communities from two hours to less than 25 minutes, improving access and security.
Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji disclosed that the N3.5 billion bridge project was initially conceived during his re-election campaign.
The dire need for the bridge became evident through the experiences of his aides and personal observations.
The project faced numerous challenges, but persistent lobbying and prayer led to its approval.
Magaji highlighted that the construction of this bridge would bolster security and enhance the local economy by facilitating the transportation of farm produce, thereby improving the livelihood of the communities.
