Team Nigeria moved from their sleeping position to the 4th on day four of the ongoing African Games, after an impressive Sunday medal overhaul where they won 7 gold medals in all courtesy of Wrestling and Badminton.
With six gold medals from female wrestling and one from Badminton on Sunday, Nigeria who are now 4th on table trail Algeria and South Africa who are both 2nd and 3rd respectively on the table with 8 gold medal each although the duo are tied on points.
Nigeria have garnered 7 gold, 7 silver and 12 bronze medals so far, making it a total of 26 as at time of filing this report.
There are however very strong indications that Nigeria will win more gold medals today as their men team in wrestling enter various categories of fights.
Egypt who took an early lead and are on top of the table with 66 medals which consist of 36 gold, 14 silver and 16 bronze are 29 gold medals away from Nigeria.
The various disciplines in Nigeria will have to leverage on the wonderful Sunday performance and see how they can garner more medals to close the gap between Egypt on the medal table.
Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria who lost their opener against Uganda will today face South Sudan in their second group game at the Accra stadium by 8:00pm Ghanaian time.
A win for the Flying Eagles will keep their hopes of qualifying to the semifinal alive while a loss marks the end of their quest of making football a potentially medal event.
