Worried by uncertainty in the Kano governorship election appeal, members of Kannywood actors have appealed for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention for justice and fairness to be served.
Although, the Kano-Based actors expressed confidence that the justices of the Supreme Court will do justice in the impending suit, the Kannywood strongly believed the  March 18, 2023 governorship polls was won by Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf.
A three-panel judges of election petition tribunal in an unanimous judgment, presided by Justice O. Osadebay upturned the victory of Governor Yusuf on September 20, 2023 on the basis of discovery of illegal ballot papers.
The verdict of the tribunal was subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal, Abuja on 17th November, 2023, and further declared that Governor Yusuf was not valid member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP.
The appelate justices led by Justice Moore Adunmein subsequently declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rightful winner of the governorship poll in Kano.
Dissatisfied with the concurrent judgments of the lower courts, the ruling NNPP in Kano and Governor Yusuf have proceed to the supreme Court seeking for dismissal of the judgments that invalidated his victory.
Lending voice to several calls and appeals on the dicey Kano judgment, the Kannywood actors at a press conference in Kano cautioned against any attempt to subvert the course of justice and victory of Governor Yusuf at the Supreme Court.
Convener of the conference, Sani Musa Danja popularly know as Sani Danger said beyond the political permutation, President Tinubu remains the father and political lords in Nigeria. Danj insisted the president’s urgent interference in the judiciary, regardless of the principle of power seperation is highly needed in Kano.
The leader of the group lamented that the call for Tinubu’s involvement ahead of Supreme Court Judgement becomes pertinent considering the recent pronouncement of the courts on election matters in the country.
Danja warned that attempt to influence the verdict of the supreme Court against Gov. Yusuf who he believed was voted to power by popular votes in Kano, could provoke unrest in the state.
According to him, ” As concerned citizens of Kano and Nigeria, we demand peace and justice. We are not asking the President ulter justice in our favour, we are asking for Justice and fairness over the governorship election in Kano. Otherwise, the peace of the nation is at risk, especially if Justice is denied in Kano.
” We plead on Mr President to prevail on the Judiciary even though we have confidence on the supreme Court as the last hope of common man. Let me say it again, Kano is sensitive, if anything happened to Kano, North is gone and if North is gone, Nigeria is gone”. Danja warned.
