*Names North-West, North-Central VPs, More Ex-Officio
The President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr. Isaiah Kemje Benjamin has appointed the Online Editor of New Nigerian Newspapers, Jacob Onjewu Dickson as his media Aide.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Secretary-General, SWAN, Ikenna Okonkwo, dated Sunday July 23, 2023, which also announced other key appointments.
“The newly inaugurated leadership of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) led by Mr. Isaiah Benjamin has approved the appointments of Vice Presidents for North-west and North-central zones.
“They are Mr. Mansour Mohammed and Mr. Olayinka Owolewa.
“While Mansour oversees North-west, Olayinka takes charge of North-Central,” the statement said.
It informed that the two VPs National officers of SWAN had served the professional association in various capacities including being secretaries of their various states of Kano and Kwara respectively.
The National President after ratification by the National Executive Committee of SWAN also appointed Mr. Gabriel Nwanetanya and Usman Abbas Shehu as Ex-Officio.
Gabriel and Usman have been notable as NEC members at different times previously.
“The appointees are all expected to bring their various wealth of experience to bare in advancing the growth and development of the association.
“The VPs are expected to take charge of their various zones and ensure proper coordination of the states within their zones in line with SWAN statutes in a bid to contribute immensely in the current administration’s efforts geared towards taking SWAN to higher heights.
“As a leadership, we are committed to advancing the course of sports writing in Nigeria. Together, we will make it happen,” the SWAN President said on Sunday.
He said the new appointments are with immediate effect, while other vacant National positions would be made in due course.
“Meanwhile, the SWAN President has appointed Mr. Onjewu Jacob Dickson as his Media Assistant.
“Jacob who is based in Kaduna is also the incumbent Secretary of SWAN in the state,” the statement said.
