A two-day capacity building workshop for Police Oversight Agencies on Human Rights Documentation and Management has opened on Monday, October 24, 2022 in Kaduna.
In a welcome remark, Executive Director of Programme CLEEN Foundation, Salaudeen Hashim PhD said that citizens should be patriotic and take ownership of security agencies.
“We need to recognise the sacrifices of security agencies. When at an ATM queue and you see a policeman arrive, it should be agreed to allow him go first and withdraw.
” He might leave and go and prevent something that might affect you,” he said.
According to him, policemen are becoming civil in their approach, which is a welcome development.
He advocated the need to change the name of the Nigerian Police Force to Nigerian Police Service.
Speaking on the theme, he said that security agencies cannot be judges in their own cases, hence the need for oversight agencies.
He said part of the aim of the workshop is to ensure that at the end of the two-day training, oversight agencies will have a clear understanding of profiling and documentation of violations.
