Ash Wednesday: Priest Urges Christians To Pray For God’s Mercy

As Christians begin the Lenten season, a cleric, Rev. Fr. Stephen Onyema , on Wednesday, urged them to give alms, fast and pray to attract God’s mercy and favour.

Fr. Onyema who is the Chaplain of St. John Paul II Independence way, Kaduna gave the advice during a special mass to celebrate Ash Wednesday.

According to him, lent is a time when Christians prepare for Easter, by observing a period of fasting, repentance and spiritual discipline.

Onyema who is also the Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna reiterated that there is need for Christians to pay special attention to their spiritual lives.

Rev. Fr. Stephen Onyema has admonished Catholics to pay special attention to their spiritual lives.

“The Lenten season is very important in the Christian calendar. It is a time for us to draw closer to God in fasting and prayers”.

“As Christians, we should use this period to give alms to the poor, visit the sick, the orphanage and the less privileged in the society”.

“Our country, Nigeria, is facing economic and security challenges; as Christians, we should also use this period to pray for the revival of the nation’s economy and peace in all the troubled areas”.
