A federal lawmaker has backed the moves by Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umar Zulum’ s resetttlement of Internally Displaced persons to their original lands from which they were displaced.

Hon. Muhammed Umar Jega gave his backing while briefing Newsmen in his office at the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday. The lawmaker who commended the Borno State Governor added that IDPS are refugees who needed to go back to their homes and continue with their original occupations such as farming inorder to contribute to the development of the nation.

“IDPs are supposed to be resettled back to their communities so that they can give their own contribution to the well-being of this country,” he said.

Jega lamented that the IDPs are not enjoying basic amenities such as schools, portable water, Medical care and as such they are not happy. He therefore enjoined the Federal and State Governments to work together towards reintegrating them back into the society, adding that ” that is the only way to defeat the insecurity ravaging Nigeria”.

The Lawmaker representing Aliero/ Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency of Kebbi State also lended his voice in favour of direct primaries.

According to him, Governors and other political officers who are representing the masses do not really need to be afraid of direct primaries if they performed their duties well.

He further explained that direct primaries would boost grassroot democracy and deepen the participation of people.
