Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have invaded into University of Abuja Staff Quarters in the early hours of Tuesday, and whisked way four lecturers and some of their children to unknown destination.

The bandits were said to have stormed the University Staff Quarters in Giri and held some of the lecturers hostage. The incident has created panic in the university community, which is about 20 minutes drive to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

Confirming the development, message alert was to the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) which reads : “Good morning, Comrades, Prof. Obansa and his son , Prof Oboscolo, son and daughters, Mall Sambo Mohammed and Dr. Tobins were kidnapped in Giri University Staff quarter. Pls we need your Prayers for their safe returns.”

Similarly, the University Management also confirmed the incident on it social media platforms post.

It was not clearly stated the numbers of of those affected.

It said: ” Suspected bandits attacked the staff quarters of the University in the early hours of today.

“Our safety officers, in conjunction with security personnel, mobilised to secure the quarters.

” We have report that four of our staff and their children were, nevertheless, abducted by the evil men and Efforts are being made to ensure their safe return. A sad day for us, indeed!” it’s said
